The New Moon and Rituals

The New Moon and Rituals

Following on from the last post about Full Moon Visionboards, I’d like to share a little with you about the New Moon.

Moon Time

When the Moon is new, the Sun and Moon are aligned in the same sign, and a powerful energy portal is opened. New Moons are a great time to set intentions for things you’d like to create, develop, cultivate, make manifest. There are many ways to initiate this communion with the Universe from lighting a candle to elaborate rituals. What matters is that you’re committing yourself to your vision, and open to receiving guidance, healing and support from Spirit.

Why Follow the Moon?

When you tune into the Moon’s phases, it’s reassuring to know that there are many chances during the year to tap into lunar energy. Like the tides, the Moon ebbs and flows, a rhythm that women understand intimately. New Moons are a blank page on which to speak your dreams out loud, and Full Moons are for taking action and celebrating the fruit of your efforts.

In the chaotic and temporal world, looking to something larger, that is also part of yourself, can fill you with awe and make you feel connected. For whatever path you’re on, opening to working with planetary energies links you to the power of the divine.

Preparing for the New Moon

It’s a good idea to spend some time reflecting in the days leading up to the new Moon. Knowing exactly what you want to draw into your life is not always easy. Part of preparing for the new Moon is making sure you are clear about your intentions. Sometimes it’s a quality you’d like to cultivate like forgiveness, courage — other times it’s a more specific request like a promotion at work or new place to live.

What is a new Moon Ritual?

This depends on your personal tastes, the pace of your life and the time you have to devote to it. Some simply light a candle, while others gather objects and pictures for their altar. You can write your intentions on a 7-day candle and leaving it in a prominent (and safe) place. With a candle, you can return to it and relight it whilst meditating on your intentions.

Ritual helps focus your entire being on the quest at hand. In the days leading up to the new Moon, you might gather pictures and totems that symbolize your goal. Creating a collage gives you a visual reminder of your dreams.

What does it mean in each different sign?

Every new Moon is different, and this gives you the chance to claim the energies of each different sign. Even if you don’t have planets in the sign for a given month, it falls somewhere in your birth chart. We each have elements of the entire Zodiac in our make-up, with some more emphasized than others. Find out where the new Moon falls in your chart for clues as to what to “call in” that month.

How is it different from the Full Moon?

The new Moon has a more inward feel, has a void or empty quality, and therefore can be frightening to those not comfortable with uncertainty. Can you learn to trust the dark? It’s the moment when the old passes away and the new is not yet here. That’s why it’s a powerful time for sending out your prayer, wishes, desires to the Universe.

The new Moon is the birthing cycle of the Moon’s various phases. The new Moon phase is an optimal time for planning and seeding your intentions. Seedlings need a period of gestation before they break through the soil and reach for the sunlight. This is also true for our ideas and our desires. The dark side of the Moon, with its mysterious unseen forces, offers a nurturing environment where our intentions can establish roots before their miraculous manifestations begin to sprout and reach out to the stars.

Ceremony for Birthing Your Wishes and Desires

Setting aside a few minutes each month during the new Moon phase to focus on yours wishes and desires will help give you clarity of mind and fill your heart with promise. When it comes to setting goals or planning ahead for your future there is no better time to get started than during the new Moon. Any intentions stated or written down carries power, so please take care in considering the things that you really want. The saying “Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.” is fair warning whenever setting your new Moon intentions into motion. But, no worries. The Moon has its phases and so do our individual wants and needs. This is why it is a good practice to rededicate your list of intentions each month when another new Moon visits.

Preparing for Upcoming New Moon Manifestation

Check a Moon phase calendar for the next new Moon.

Set aside 20-30 minutes to do the ritual itself.

Supplies:

notebooks

ƒ  pen and coloured markers

ƒ  scissors

ƒ sticky tape

ƒ  candle

ƒ  matches

ƒ  incense

ƒ  smudge sticks

ƒ  meditation CDs

Prepare yourself a sacred space where to perform the ceremony when the new Moon arrives

Setting your New Moon Intentions in Motion

Cleanse your sacred area with an opening prayer, a sage smudging, and/or by burning some incense.

  1. Light one or more candles.
  2. Centre your being and calm yourself in whatever way is appropriate for you.
  3. Take some deep cleansing breaths, slip in a meditation CD to listen to, and/or leisurely sip on a cup of relaxing herbal tea.
  4. Open your notebook, and date the first page. Write down these words “I accept these things into my life now or something better for my highest good and for the highest good of all concerned.” or something similar. Below your affirmation statement, begin writing down your desires. Your list may consist of only one item or you may have several pages written down. Try not to limit yourself. If having many things in your life helps to fulfil you then don’t deny yourself wanting these things.

During the month when an item on your new Moon list comes to you, don’t merely cross it off of your list, take the time to re-write the list in its entirety eliminating the manifested item from the list.   This is highly recommended. At the same time you may add whatever else that you have decided you would like. Feel free to re-word any of the original phrases if they better fit your life now. It is natural that your desires will change as time advances.

It is helpful to salt and pepper your manifest list with smaller items that will manifest quickly, such as tickets to the ballet, lunch with a friend, or a day at the spa. You may think that smaller things are too trivial to put on your intention list… Wrong! Things that tend to manifest with little effort still deserve to be written down. Write down everything that you desire, no matter how little or simple. If it is something that makes you happy, write it down. Manifesting smaller items on our lists actually creates a steady flow of energy to the list. These smaller manifestations create movement, allowing an ebb and flow of the tides. We are dealing here with the Moon cycles after all. Besides, sometimes we forget to appreciate the smaller pleasures in our lives while we are waiting for the BIG stuff to come in. If you only write statements like, “I want to win the lottery” in your notebook then you are limiting yourself by not allowing abundance to flow to you from other avenues.

A second notebook will be used as a manifestation scrapbook where you paste in pictures or catalogue clippings of items that you want to manifest.

This is a fun project so enjoy yourself.  You will soon be amazed how these things begin to find their way into your life once you start this process.

Full Moon Visionboards

Standard

As we start to leave the latest full moon behind, we look forward to the next which will occur at 21:54 GMT on Tuesday 7 February 2012, this is also known as a Storm Moon.  The power of the moon is well known to us all, the way it can influence tides, menstrual cycles and moods.

On each full moon this year, you are invited to create and share a Full Moon Visionboard with other Goddesses:

On the new moon, which is 23 January, I will post information on this Blog and Twitter about the energy surrounding the upcoming full moon and invite you to begin gathering inspiration and materials for your Full Moon Visionboard . This is the time to start thinking about what you want to invite into your life and how you might like to represent that on the board.

On the full moon, make a date with yourself to create a your Full Moon Visionboard, a visual representation of what you would like to bring into your life over the coming days.

On the day of the full moon, post a picture of your Visionboard on your blog or website. I’ll open up an exclusive Flickr Page so that we can share images of the Visionboards with each other.

You may not be familiar with Visionboards – to help you, I’ve put together an ECourse which I am offering at a bargain price of £10.  This ECourse contains lots of information and facts about both the moon and Visionboards and how to put them together.

This is a full colour ECourse, available online and will be sent to you upon payment of the £10 fee.

If you’re interested, click  http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/event/2743769689 and you can pay online.

I look forward to seeing the wonderful Visionboards which you will create and be able to share mine with you also.

Blessings, Katherine xx

Welcome to 2012

Standard

Goodness, where has the time gone?

I didn’t even manage to make a Yule post on the site, for which I apologise – everything is totally hectic here.

So – did you manage to celebrate Yule?  I did but without the Yule Log – wasn’t able to source an appropriate log without hacking down trees – which is not in the spirit of things really.  So, I improvised with my red, white and green candles and gave thanks my way.

Christmas was okay, as Christmases go – can’t get too over enthusiastic about them these days, really – old age?   Seriously, I find much more satisfaction in working with nature and spirit than the ‘norm’ of Santa Claus; endless shopping and being told/expected what to do.

I have a new mailing list service available via Constant Contact which is absolutely excellent, allows me to create some wonderful mailings.  Got the first one done before Christmas and am now working on the next one which should be sent out by the end of this week.  It’s a great way to keep in touch with everyone and is just that bit more special, and colourful, than an ordinary email.  If you don’t receive these mailings yet, please let me know by sending a request to our email account and I’ll add you to the list.  [goddessnetwork2011@gmail.com]

New Workshops should be announced very soon, going to firm up the venue bookings later this week – look out for Creative Journaling; Creative Goddess and Starting on the Goddess Path.  Full details will be posted here and emailed out to Goddesses.

Namaste – Goddess Katherine

Samhain preparations

Standard

Samhain will soon be here and I’m starting to prepare foods and rituals.

For those of you not so familiar with Samhain, here’s a brief outline of the Sabbat:

Samhain is known by most folks as Halloween, but for Wiccans and Pagans it’s considered a Sabbat to honor the ancestors who came before us. It’s a good time to contact the spirit world with a seance, because it’s the time when the veil between this world and the next is at its thinnest.

Religious scholars agree that the word Samhain (pronounced “sow-en”) comes from the Gaelic “Samhuin,” but they’re divided on whether it means the end or beginning of summer. After all, when summer is ending here on earth, it’s just beginning in the Underworld. Samhain actually refers to the daylight portion of the holiday, on November 1st.

All Hallow Mass
Around the eighth century or so, the Catholic Church decided to use November 1st as All Saints Day. This was actually a pretty smart move on their part – the local pagans were already celebrating that day anyway, so it made sense to use it as a church holiday. All Saints’ became the festival to honor any saint who didn’t already have a day of his or her own. The mass which was said on All Saints’ was called Allhallowmas – the mass of all those who are hallowed. The night before naturally became known as All Hallows Eve, and eventually morphed into what we call Halloween

The Witch’s New Year
Sunset on Samhain is the beginning of the Celtic New Year. The old year has passed, the harvest has been gathered, cattle and sheep have been brought in from the fields, and the leaves have fallen from the trees. The earth slowly begins to die around us.

As you can see from the pictures on this page, there is the iconic black cat associated with witches and Halloween.

The Witch’s Familiar
Around the time of the Middle Ages, the cat became associated with witches and witchcraft. Around the late 1300’s, a group of witches in France were accused of worshipping the Devil in the form of a cat. It may be because of the cat’s nocturnal nature that it became connected to witches — after all, night time was the time they held their meetings, as far as the church was concerned.

Black Cat Folklore and Legends
Sixteenth-century Italians believed that if a black cat jumped on the bed of an ill person, the person would soon die.
In Colonial America, Scottish immigrants believed that a black cat entering a wake was bad luck, and could indicated the death of a family member.
The Norse goddess Freyja drove a chariot pulled by a pair of black cats.
A Roman solder killed a black cat in Egypt, and was killed by an angry mob of locals.
Appalachian folklore said that if you had a stye on the eyelid, rubbing the tail of a black cat on it would make the stye go away.
If you find a single white hair on your otherwise-black cat, it’s a good omen.
In England’s border countries and southern Scotland, a strange black cat on the front porch brings good fortune.

Appreciations

Standard

Do you record your daily appreciations – things, places, people which you are appreciative of and thankful for that day?

I must admit I have done this spasmodically over recent months but I have made a pact [with myself] that I will be doing this daily from now on.

So, today I am grateful for:

sleep, love, birthday, family, sunset, picnic, presents, Sam, Max and Meg, my children, ginger tea, peace and harmony

This only takes a few moments but I think it will help us all get into a positive frame of mind and be appreciative of things around us.

What do you think?

Prose about Women

Standard

Been referred to this beautiful prose – wanted to share it with you too ..

Here’s to WOMEN
Author: Unknown

WOMEN are WOW .. just face it!!
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up for injustice.
They don’t take “no” for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without new shoes so their children can have them.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a new marriage.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes.
They’ll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin!
Women do more than just give birth.
They bring joy and hope.
They give compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends. Women have a lot to say and
a lot to give.

This has been sent to you from someone who respects you as a woman!!! Pass it along to your woman friends to remind them how amazing they are and to all the men .. for a realisation to appreciate women more!!
